Will Arnett is one of the funniest dudes out there, having been a barrel of laughs in almost everything he’s ever done. And this next series could be one of the most ambitious and hilarious things he’s done yet. Arnett is set to star in Murderville on Netflix which will air six episodes in a limited series on the streamer. From the early looks at the series, this could have some true laugh-out-loud moments, heck he has other stars on the show breaking character in the moment. And now we have our first real look at what this series is going to be all about.

The show’s format is unlike what American audiences have really seen before. He is going to play a detective in the series, and in each episode, Arnett will be joined by a celebrity who is there to “help” solve the crime as well. It’s a very meta approach in that they are clearly on a series though Arnett is calling the shots in real-time and the guests are working without a script. Confused? Don’t be. It’s rather simple when you see what is going on here. Check out Will Arnett and many others in the trailer for Murderville.

It takes someone truly at the top of their comedy gain to pull something like this off. And it sure looks like Will Aren’t is that dude. The partly unscripted comedy series will bring in guest stars alongside Arnett who plays Senior Detective Terry Seattle. Each episode will have this fictional police department working to solve a murder on the show. But the guest stars don’t have a script and there is just a massive amount of improv going. That’s why you see folks breaking character throughout. Arnett just keeps throwing them curveballs or feeding them lines along the way, trying to make things “difficult”. It is a hilarious concept.

The show is based on the BBC series Murder In Successville which ran for three seasons. The British comedy was in the same format with Tom Davis in the lead. That show used celebrity impersonators as well, something that might not be happening with this remake. But one thing that will remain the same is the guest stars will be asked to try and solve the show’s mystery before it’s all said and done. The first season’s guests will include Sharon Stone, Conan O’Brien, Ken Jeong, Kumail Nanjiani, Annie Murphy, and ex-NFL player Marshawn Lynch.

Will Arnett is set to premier Murderville on Netflix on February 3rd. Haneefah Wood and Lilan Bowden are part of the recurring cast. If they have a strong showing this first time around, it’s easy to see multiple seasons with this kind of format. Considering Arnett’s talent, it would be easy to see other comedians and celebrities wanting to take part in a show with this kind of format. There are plenty of laughs to mine. And that they got such big names for the first six episodes is a testament to Arnett’s talent and how he’s viewed in the industry.
