The Masked Singer UK airs dramatic double elimination

The most secretive talent show out there, The Masked Singer UK, returned for another round of head-scratching musical covers tonight (January 30).

Lit up by guest judge Alan Carr, this week’s instalment featured a dramatic double elimination, meaning seven celebrity singers were whittled down to just five.

Lifting off those sizeable Viking and Blob masks, it was A-ha frontman Morten Harket and comedian/actor Sir Lenny Henry who revealed themselves in the end.

Recognised as one of Norway’s greatest exports, Morten went on to admit to presenter Joel Dommett that he took part in this year’s series to escape his comfort zone.

“It was fun to start to become another character,” he said. “I’ve never done anything like that before – never done theatre, films, nothing.”

He is also officially the first-ever Masked Singer participant to perform one of his own tunes in the competition (‘Take On Me’).

Unmasked at the very end of tonight’s episode, landing in the bottom alongside Dragon, Sir Lenny thanked Alan’s “generous” guess that Hollywood legend Morgan Freeman was beneath the Blob costume.

Mirroring the feelings of every Briton, the 62-year-old laughed: “I’ve been in lockdown since March… so when the people said ‘Come and do this,’ I was like, ‘Yes OK I’ll come!’

“So to be here with people and to have them be so lovely, to be listening to the panel and to see you guys, it’s been a joy to be here.”

The Masked Singer continues next Saturday (February 6) on ITV.
