CLEVELAND, Ohio — A year ago today, the sports world was rocked by the shocking death of Kobe Bryant and his daughter, Gianna. The two were among the nine victims of a helicopter crash in Calabasas, Calif.
Kobe was 41 and Gianna was 13.
Players and teams throughout the NBA paid tribute to Kobe in the immediate aftermath of his death, including intentional 24-second violations and players like Trae Young opting to wear his No. 8 jersey at the start of a game.
Days after the tragedy, the Lakers hosted a memorial ceremony at Staples Center where people like Shaquille O’Neal, Michael Jordan and Kobe’s wife, Vanessa, shared stories about Kobe and Gianna in front of a crowd of thousands.
The sports world hasn’t forgotten about Kobe, especially on Tuesday, which was the one-year anniversary of his death. His impact has been felt throughout the sports world not just for what he did on the court, but with his work ethic and drive, famously known as the “Mamba Mentality.”
Here are some of the tribute messages that were shared on social media on Tuesday including some from current and former NBA players, fellow professional athletes and other celebrities honoring the late Kobe and Gianna Bryant.
