Matthew Perry believes “Friends” remains popular because of the “character-driven” comedy.
The 51-year-old actor starred as Chandler Bing in an NBC sitcom. The comedy has been a huge hit for many years, even though it ended in 2004 after the show aired for 10 years.
And recently, after filming a special reunion episode with co-stars such as Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer, Matthew did not rely on “timely jokes” and the show was successful. He said he thinks it contains. It no longer resonates with new viewers.
He states: “It was a character-driven funny thing, not a timely funny thing. They didn’t make timely jokes. They didn’t make jokes about OJ Simpson. They were character-driven about people. I made a joke — and people will come back, look at it over and over again. “
Matthew spoke to People magazine with his co-stars when discussing the reunion show on HBO Max on May 27th.
In a special episode entitled “Friends: Reunion,” six stars recall time at the show, including a table reed of fans’ favorite scenes and a reimagination of a famous clip.
“I was full of irreplaceable memories for 10 years,” said 56-year-old Courteney.
Matt, 53, added: “It’s weird. When we get together, it doesn’t seem like time has passed. We’ll resume where we left off.”
And Matthew also said that the chemistry that exists during the cast is still “magic.”
Matt said, “It’s awkward. I’ll say it’s awkward.”
Meanwhile, Lisa recently revealed that filming a “Friends” reunion was “really emotional.”
She said: “It was really emotional, and looking at it again, seeing it, I became emotional again. It’s also really very thrilling. We’re together [Matt] LeBlanc tells a story like no other, he’s amazing. Laugh a lot “
