Golden Globes Audience Filled With First Responders And Essential Workers Instead Of …

The Golden Globes is underway in Tinseltown tonight (February 28) and it’s brought many big-name celebrities to town.

But this year’s awards show is a little different to its predecessors.

Instead of the hall being absolutely packed to the brim with every single person who has ever written, produced, starred in or were loosely attached to a TV show or movie, organisers have made some space for other types of people.

Instead of celebrities as far as the eye could see, there are first responders, essential workers and members from Feeding America.

The decision was made to include these people who have kept us safe and fed during the pandemic and let them have a special night.

Hosts of the night, Tina Fey and Amy Pohler, gave a shoutout to the different audience members and told them they’re ‘smoking hot’.

“Thank you for being here so the celebrities can be at home,” Tina Fey said.

Everyone who was asked to attend had to be tested for coronavirus and return a negative result. They will also have to socially distance from other guests and be required to wear masks for the whole evening.

The only people exempt from that rule will be the ones on stage who are presenting awards.

But that’s not the only thing that’s different about this year’s awards. The majority of celebrities who would normally have attended are instead being beamed in live from the comfort of their own home.

Some A-listers have kept up with the glitz and glamour of the evening by donning stunning outfits, despite sitting on the couch.

However, others have kept it casual.

People took to social media to praise actor Jeff Daniels for not bothering to get dressed up for tonight’s festivities.

Despite many of the nominees being dressed for the occasion, Jeff seemed to be sat in his guest bedroom wearing a casual flannel shirt. Comfort is key these days though, right – who can blame him?

Twitter immediately did what Twitter does best and memes began rolling in targeted at Jeff’s casual set up.

One wrote: “I respect that Jeff Daniels literally just got up from dinner and fired up the zoom and is gonna go back to eat now.”

Another added: “Jeff Daniels sitting in a small, very casual bedroom on zoom during the Golden Globes is the most relatable thing I’ve ever seen.”

The 66-year-old was nominated for Best Actor in a Drama Series and was up against Bryan Cranston for Your Honor, Hugh Grant for The Undoing, Ethan Hawke for The Good Lord Bird and Mark Ruffalo for I Know This Much Is True.
