Despite being awarded 15 million dollars in the recent box-office defamation lawsuit, Johnny Depp could sue Amber Heard once again.
Depp was awarded the amount after a jury found that Heard had defamed the former in an op-ed written in the Washington Post in 2018.
While Heard successfully counter-sued Depp for 2m dollars in compensatory damages for comments made by Depp‘s lawyer, the Pirates of the Caribbean actor was awarded 10m dollars in compensatory damages and a further 5m dollars in punitive damages.
However, following the ruling, Heard has once again doubled down on her claim that Depp abused her, opening the door for her to be hit with another defamation lawsuit.
“Yes. This interview could count as a new ‘publication’ under the law, which could spur a third lawsuit,” Entertainment lawyer Nicole Haff told the Daily Mail.
However, this might not be the best course of action for Depp to take as Heard‘s lawyers have already stated on record that their client couldn’t afford to pay the original ruling.
Heard, for her part, already fears that another lawsuit could be incoming. The actress admitted on NBC Today that she is worried that she could be sued for defamation once more.
“I am scared that, no matter what I do, no matter what I say or how I say it, every step that I take will present another opportunity for silencing, which I guess is what a defamation lawsuit is meant to do – it is meant to take your voice,” Heard said on NBC Today.
“I took for granted what I assumed was my right to speak.”
