After years of being off the air, MTV Cribs is coming back in August, and fans are excited to see how and where their favorite celebrities live. The original series first premiered in 2000 and aired 13 seasons until 2005. While there have been a number of reboots since then, none of them were able to keep a solid viewership. Now that the series is officially back, fans are excited to see the upscale homes of their favorite celebrities.
When MTV Cribs originally aired more than 20 years ago, it was a hit among teens who frequently watched MTV. Even though the series was on for only a short period of time, it made enough of an impact to have several reboots. In fact, MTV Canada created their own version of the series in 2006 that focused on Canadian personalities. Even MTV’s sister network CMT created its own version in 2009 for country stars.
According to an exclusive sneak peek from People into the rebooted series, which premieres in less than a month on August 11, the roster of celebrity home tours will feature the likes of Scott Disick, Martha Stewart, JoJo Siwa, and many more. Each episode will be 30 minutes long, taking the viewers beyond the security gates and through the grand entrances of some of the most famous stars’ luxurious homes. In the teaser, viewers get a brief look into rapper Big Sean’s in-home nightclub, as well as Martha Stewart’s relationship with her 21 peacocks. Other notable faces included in the reboot are Ashlee Simpson and husband Evan Ross, Tia Mowry, Jordyn Woods, Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi, Rick Ross, Kathy Griffin, and more.
Nina L. Diaz, the president of content and chief creative officer at MTV Entertainment Group said of the reboot, “Cribs didn’t simply introduce the celebreality [sic] genre, it created a blueprint for how we engage on social media.” She added, “We are thrilled to usher in a new era of this iconic franchise for audiences around the world.” MTV initially announced the return of Cribs in October 2020, along with an international edition, which premiered later that month. The worldwide version took the audience to homes outside the United States where celebs such as The Real Housewives of Atlanta‘s Kenya Moore, Selling Sunset’s Jason Oppenheim, Todrick Hall, and more escape.
With the premiere of MTV Cribs less than a month away, fans are excited about taking a look inside the homes of some of the world’s most well-known celebrities. The original show was a staple on the network during the early 2000s, and millennials are excited such an iconic show is getting another chance with the younger generation.
