Epic Badassery: These Celebrities Own Military Tanks – HotCars

Celebrities are nothing if not unique, and their taste for luxury is no exception. While some A-listers like Denzel Washington prefer to keep their celebrity status low-key, others enjoy flaunting their wealth and power.

In 2011, for example, popular American rapper Birdman purchased a Maybach Exelero for a cool $8 million. Fast-forward to 2018 and Travis Scott made headlines when he gifted his girlfriend Kylie Jenner a $1.4 million Ferrari LaFerrari following the birth of their daughter, Stormi Webster.

These outrageous purchases are almost commonplace among celebrities. And then some go above and beyond when it comes to purchasing luxury items. If you thought these were over-the-top, just wait until you hear about the celebrities who own military tanks…

Yes, you read that correctly. A number of famous people have actually purchased their own real-life tanks. While we can’t imagine why anyone would need a military vehicle, it’s clear that these celebrities have the means to buy whatever they want.

Jay Leno: $350,000 Blastolene Special

via Amcarguide

Jay Leno comes at six because his isn’t exactly a military tank, but rather a Patton tank’s engine that’s been placed on a 1950s-era chassis. The result is the Blastolene Special;an imposing and rather unique vehicle that Leno seems to enjoy driving around.

The Blastolene Special is absolutely massive weighing 9,500 pounds, with 2500 pounds of it being the engine. Despite purchasing it at only $125,000 back in 2003, the car is now estimated at $350,000.

J.R. Smith: $450,000 Rhino Gurkha F5

Surprised to see J.R. Smith on this list? Well, turns out the former NBA star isn’t afraid to spend his money on things that are a little out of the ordinary. Smith decided to purchase a decommissioned military tank and is a proud owner of a $450,000 Gurkha F5.

For those unfamiliar, the Gurkha F5 is a military vehicle that’s been designed for urban warfare. It’s fully armored and comes complete with bulletproof glass, a roof-mounted machine gun, and a smokescreen system. Of course, Smith’s tank has been slightly modified to make it street legal.

Gervonta Davis: $300,000 USSV Rhino GX

Gervonta “Tank” Davis is a professional boxer with an undefeated record. He’s also the proud owner of a military-grade, desert camouflage USSV Rhino GX tank that cost him $330,000. It even has his initials GTD branded on the front. We are not sure whether the nickname had any influence on his decision to purchase the tank.

The Rhino GX is designed for both off and on-road use and can seat up to seven people. It’s also bulletproof and has a 6.8-liter V10 engine that produces an impressive 400 horsepower. Pretty impressive!

Jamie Foxx And Chris Brown: $350,000 Rezvani Tank

This one is a bit of a cheat because it’s technically two celebrities, but we had to include them on the list; and solely because they have a similar military car. Jamie Foxx and Chris Brown are the proud owners of Rezvani Tank X; a luxury military tank that’s been designed for both off-road and on-road use.

As you might expect, the Rezvani Tank X doesn’t come cheap and has a starting price of $295,000 with added extras for customization. But for celebrities like Jamie Foxx and Chris Brown, that’s pocket change.

The tank comes complete with all the features you’d expect from a military vehicle including armor plating, night vision, and a ballistic missile system. Oh, and it also has a 6.4-liter V8 engine that produces 500 horsepower.

Rick Ross

The Big Boss himself, Rick Ross is the newest member of the military tank-owning club. The rapper took to social media to show off his new purchase; a massive camouflaged Louis Vuitton tank.

One thing with Mr. William Roberts, he knows how to make an entrance. He bought the tank ahead of his car and bike show event. But we are still not sure how much it cost him.

The one-of-a-kind custom-made tank by the luxury brand has leather seats, a Louis Vuitton steering wheel cover, and even a custom sound system. It’s also bulletproof (of course) and can seat up to eight people. He posted on his Instagram “THE TOYS ARE BEGINNING TO ARRIVE!!!”

Arnold Schwarzenegger: Free

All the tanks in this list are mind-blowing, but there’s one that stands out above the rest, and that’s Arnold Schwarzenegger’s. The former Mr. Olympia and Hollywood superstar is the owner of an outrageous luxury 1951 M-47 Patton tank that he got for free!

The tank is special to the former California governor as it’s exactly the one he drove during his military days in the Austrian National Army back in 1965. Talking to Jay Leno, Arnold revealed that he received the tank as a gift from the Austrian Government, but he had to pay a whopping $20,000 to transport it to the United States.

Arnold uses the tank for charity purposes to help disadvantaged kids.

Can You Own A Military Vehicle?

This list pretty much makes you wonder whether owning a military vehicle is even legal. Well, the answer is… it depends.

In the United States, owning a military vehicle is perfectly legal provided it’s not an active weapon system. That means the missile, grenade, and machine-gun systems must be removed. You are also required to have a title for the vehicle from the National Firearms Act (NFA) and register it with your state DMV. You have to get insurance to make sure the vehicle is street legal and abides by the emission laws of your state.

All in all, it’s not as simple as just purchasing a military vehicle but if you have your heart (and pocket) set on owning one, it’s totally worth it!

These badass celebrities have shown that, if you have the money, you can pretty much buy anything you want; including a military tank. While it might not be the most practical purchase, it’s definitely a cool way to show off your wealth and make a statement.
