CHICOPEE — Hundreds of visitors filled the Rumbleseat Bar & Grille to support the fundraising effort of The Boys & Girls Club of Chicopee in renovating the outdoor basketball court that will be named in honor of Officer Angela M. Santiago.
WAQY, Rock 102 radio personality Steve Nagle served as emcee for the four-hour celebrity bartender event where 100% of the bar and online tips were donated.
Celebrity bartenders worked in one-hour shifts. Scheduled to serve the 4 to 5 p.m. were Mayor John Vieau; William Jebb, Chicopee police chief; Julia Copolous, chamber of commerce and Daniel Stamborski, Chicopee fire chief.
The 5 to 6 p.m. shift was Shane Brooks, city council president; AJ Crane, owner of A. Crane Construction; and Valerie Bell, of Spectrum News.
The 6 to 7 p.m. shift was Shavonne Santiago, state Sen. Adam Gomez, D-Springfield; Sarah Mailhott, president Boys & Girls Club of Greater Chicopee board of directors; and Jason Reed, executive director of the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Chicopee.
The night wrapped up with the Battle of the Badges between the police and fire departments.
Santiago was a five-year police officer in Chicopee who was killed in an off- duty motorcycle crash on Interstate 91 in 2020.
