
Celebrity views became the norm at Augusta National during the week of the Masters Tournament.
This year is no different.
Here’s who I saw in class this week.
Condolences Rice
Rice is the current director of the Hoover Institution at Stanford University. She was the 66th Secretary of State of the United States, serving under President George W. Bush. She later served in the Bush administration as a national security adviser. Rice is a member of the Augusta National Golf Club.
Peyton Manning
Manning played 18 NFL seasons before being selected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2021. He threw over 71,000 yards and 500 touchdowns in those 18 years. Five-time NFL MVP, Manning has led two Super Bowl teams during his career: Indianapolis Colts (XLI, 2006) and Denver Broncos (L, 2015).
Charles Kelley
Kelley has been a vocalist in the country band “Lady A” since forming the band in 2006. She grew up in Augusta, graduating from Lakeside High School and the University of Georgia. With Lady A, she won awards such as New CMA Artist of the Year in 2008, Vocal Group of the Year in 2009 and 2012 and a Grammy in 2011 for Song of the Year.
The Little Big City
Little Big Town is a country music group founded in the late 1990’s. They have won Grammy Awards for several songs, including “Pontoon” (2013), “Girl Crush” (2016) and “Better Man” (2018). They also received the 2018 On The Hill Award.
Adam Sandler
Sandler is an actor and comedian.
Jim Harbaugh
Harbaugh is the Michigan Wolverines football coach, former NFL coach and defender.
Eric Church
Church is an award-winning country music artist from Granite Falls, NC. He is known for a few hits no. 1, including “Drink in My Hand” and “Springsteen”. Church is affectionately referred to by his fans as the “Boss.”
Aaron Murray
Murray played as a defender at the University of Georgia from 2009-2013, leading the Bulldogs to the 2012 Southeastern Conference Championship. He was recruited by the Kansas City Chiefs in the fifth round of the 2014 NFL Draft and now serves as a college football analyst for CBS.
Ryan Zimmerman
The Washington national team selected Zimmerman as the top pick in the 2005 MLB draft. He made his MLB debut in the same year and spent his entire 16-year career with the organization before retiring after the 2021 season. Zimmerman helped lead the Nationals to a 2019 World Series title, and his jersey number (11) is set to be withdrawn in June.
Sam Darnold
Darnold is the Carolina Panthers defender.
DJ Shockley
Shockley led the University of Georgia to the 2005 SEC LSU Championship. The Atlanta Falcons then took him to the seventh round of the 2006 NFL Draft, where he played until 2009. After his football career, Shockley currently serves as a sports anchor for FOX 5 in Atlanta.
Lynn Swann
Swann is a wide receiver in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He played for the Pittsburgh Steelers from 1974-82, helping lead the team to four Super Bowl titles. Most recently, he was athletic director of his university, the University of Southern California, from 2016-2019. Swann is a member of ANGC.
Roger Goodell
Goodell is the sixth NFL commissioner since taking office in 2006. He is also a member of the ANGC.
Larry Fitzgerald
Fitzgerald is a former NFL receiver. He played his entire 17-year career with the Arizona Cardinals, winning 11 Pro Bowl selections and leading the team to a Super Bowl XLIII appearance.
