Sometimes she just wants to kiss famous girls.
In a new interview with Gay Times, pop singer Bebe Rexha has expanded on her sexuality, how she feels about labels, and whether or not she’s ever fallen in love with a woman.
Rexha just released a new single, “Sacrifice,” which was a huge hit with her large LGBTQ+ fanbase. The track is dancey and tough, and dramatic as hell. In this interview, the singer talked about how being queer herself helps her relate to her LGBTQ+ fans.
“What I believe about sexuality is this: it’s a scale,” she told the site. “Have I gone out with girls before? Yes. Have I dated girls? Yes, I have. And famous ones, but I’m not naming them. Even though people would be living for it – no!” She added, “have I fallen in love with a girl before? Yes, but right now, I’m in a relationship with a guy.”
Wait, hold up Bebe! The “Meant to Be” singer has never revealed that she dated a fellow celebrity until now. In 2020, she did an interview with People where she talked about her boyfriend Keyan Sfyari, who she had started dating earlier that year, so presumably these relationships with unnamed famous women were before that.
She’s had a long career as a songwriter and singer, and has worked with many female artists. She’s written songs for people like Selena Gomez, Tinashe (who is bisexual), and Iggy Azalea. She also has had longtime friendships with model Winnie Harlow and fellow singer Rita Ora, who came out as having had “romantic relationships with women and men” after controversy arose from her song “Girls.”
When “Girls” first came out, there was some backlash from queer fans. Out singers like Hayley Kiyoko and Kehlani called out the song at the time as none of the performers on it were out and the song seemed to objectify queer women and fetishize our experiences. However, both Rexha and Ora came out after the controversy.
Rexha hasn’t said any more about who these mysterious women in her past were, but she did talk more about her sexuality. She said that she doesn’t use a label for herself, and falls in love with “whoever inspires me.” She told the site that “it’s just so hard because everybody wants to put people in boxes and I don’t like boxes, as you can tell with my music. Like, I don’t like boxes whatsoever.”
Well, based on her comments about dating and falling in love with women, it seems like she likes at least one kind of box.
