Celebrities are often people others look up to and who set trends that, in many cases, start new obsessions. Many celebrities choose to do this with extravagant houses and fashion items, while others use their car choices to make a statement.
There are and have been celebrities who have excellent tastes in automobiles – from Steve McQueen with his 1956 Jaguar XKSS, to Jerry Seinfeld and his collection of Porsche 911s and Jay Leno, of course, with his amazing assortment of vehicles. But while some celebrities are proper car enthusiasts, others are purely in it for the publicity and outlandishness. These range from a pink Bentley Continental GT to a completely redesigned DeLorean DMC-12 and even a leopard-print Audi R8.
While this does not mean the celebrities are necessarily bad at choosing cars, their choices for customization may just be a bit dubious. With that, here are 10 questionable custom cars driven by celebrities.
10 Paris Hilton’s Pink Bentley Continental GT
Paris Hilton – or whoever advises her – has relatively good taste in cars. She has owned a gray Mercedes-McLaren SLR (which is now owned by Ed Bolian) and a Lexus LFA – both of which she thankfully left unmodified. One of her more off-putting additions to her collection was a pink Bentley Continental GT.
Bentley offers pink as a color, but where their pink is a deep, quite pretty, and regal pink, Ms. Hilton’s Continental was a flat and hideous pink. The worst part about the car was not the aftermarket grille or the horrendous wheels, but the reupholstered interior which featured the same pink color on the leather. Utterly atrocious!
9 Nicki Minaj’s Pink Lamborghini Aventador
The Lamborghini Aventador is an amazing car that has now come to the end of its production run. The 6.5-liter naturally aspirated V12 screams as the revs increase and the whole experience of driving one is something special. Unfortunately, famous people are allowed to buy them.
Nicki Minaj, known for her music, is one such famous person and decided to make her Aventador pink. Granted, it is a shade better than Paris Hilton’s, but she had some aftermarket wheels fitted which make the car look tacky. Luckily, she kept the interior stock.
8 Deadmau5’s Lamborghini Huracan
Deadmau5 is famous for his electronic house music and his liking of Nyan Cat, the famous internet meme. He purchased a Ferrari 458 Spyder and wrapped the car in a Nyan Cat livery – calling it his ‘Purrari’, whereafter Ferrari issued a cease-and-desist order, forcing him to remove the wrap.
As a result, he sold the 458 and bought a Lamborghini Huracan, wrapped the car in the same livery, and has since been driving around in his ‘Purracan’, taking swipes at Ferrari whenever he can. This custom Lamborghini is definitely one of the better custom celebrity cars.
7 Jojo Siwa’s Tesla Model X
Jojo Siwa is a dancer, singer, and YouTuber who gained popularity in 2016 following the release of a hit single. She was named one of the most influential people in 2020 and has competed and featured in many dancing and singing competitions.
For her 16th birthday, Jojo got a Tesla Model X as a present. The Model X is a great car, however, hers was customized with some questionable wheels, psychedelic seats, and a wrap that features nothing but her own face. It is definitely near the top of the list of cars we don’t ever want to drive.
6 Kanye West’s Lamborghini Urus
Kanye West has a rather impressive car collection, featuring an extremely rare Mercedes-McLaren SLR Stirling Moss, a Ferrari F12 Berlinetta, and a pair of luxurious DARTZ armored SUVs. One of his more recent additions includes a Lamborghini Urus.
While Lamborghini is not a new brand for Mr. West – who owned a blacked-out Aventador – the Urus is subtly, yet distinctly modified. The super SUV is painted a beige/cream matte color and it is fitted with some massive Monoblock wheels. The vehicle as a whole looks either like a type of military transporter, or – as Carscoops pointed out – a German taxi. Probably not the look Mr. West was going for.
5 Kim Kardashian’s Cadillac Escalade
Kim Kardashian, like her ex-husband Kanye West, has a rather good car collection. She bought many cars, however, she currently owns a Mercedes-Maybach S-Class, a Lamborghini Urus, and a Rolls-Royce Ghost. In February 2022, she spent upwards of $100,000 getting them wrapped – all in gray, accents and all.
One of her better-customized cars is the Cadillac Escalade she uses to drive around most of the time. It is silver with blacked-out windows and very little modifications, bar the gorgeous 26-inch wheels. The Escalade was modified by Platinum Motorsport and the wheels were designed for the car. One of the better-looking cars driven by famous people.
4 David Beckham’s Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead
David Beckham had a rather nice Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead which he used to drive around in before he sold it in 2012. The Phantom Drophead was the peak of convertible extravagance before Rolls-Royce launched the Dawn. It featured all of the same luxuries as that of the 4-door Phantom.
While Beckham has quite a nice taste in automobiles, his choice of wheels was not all that great. The wheel design was that of lowriders and blacking out the spokes made the car look tacky and cheap – even when it cost him a reported $400,000. A bit of a waste then.
3 Flo Rida’s Gold Chrome Bugatti Veyron
It seems that when a famous person makes it big, they show it off by buying a Bugatti. In Flo Rida’s case, he bought a Veyron 16.4. While the Veyron itself is considered by the motoring community to be pretty flashy and extravagant, Flo Rida decided to up the ante.
To accomplish this, he had the Veyron wrapped in gold chrome and fitted some gold-accented 5-spoke wheels to round it all off. While many would consider this to be too much, some actually liked it. In fact, Jamie Foxx liked it so much, that he did the exact same thing with his Veyron. At least he kept the stock wheels.
2 Justin Bieber’s Rolls-Royce Wraith
One of the newest additions to Justin Bieber’s car collection is a Rolls-Royce Wraith. While the Wraith is a beautiful car with elegant lines and extreme luxury, Mr. Bieber decided to take it a step further. He gave it to the West Coast Customs garage, and they turned it into a driving concept car.
Inspired by the Rolls-Royce 103EX concept car, this Wraith is designed to make it look like it’s ‘floating’ instead of rolling on tires. While the 103EX is a masterclass in design, the West Coast Customs Wraith is not. The design has ruined the look of the Wraith and the rear is by far the worst part. It is a design not even TheSketchMonkey can fix.
1 Will.I.Am’s Mercedes-Benz AMG GT
Will.I.Am has a rather colorful history when it comes to custom cars. His most famous one is the heavily modified DeLorean DMC-12, which is somehow even boxier than the original. Unfortunately, where the standard DeLorean looked like a concept car for the road, the custom version ruins the whole design.
Recently, Will.I.Am has unveiled a new addition to his outrageous collection. A Mercedes-Benz AMG GT – with the nose from a G-Wagon. The car started out as an AMG GT 4-Door but was redesigned to be a 2-door and have the doors hinged at the rear, like a Rolls-Royce. The front end was replaced with a G-Wagons’ and some Monoblock wheels were fitted. The result is a mishmash of Mercedes designs – most of which should not be anywhere near each other.
